The Blood of Jesus has unlimited power
The blood
Many believers use phrases like ?washed in the blood?, ?covered by the blood? and ?pleading the blood?. These lovely words express important truths, but they can confuse and mislead those people who don?t know what they mean.
When we speak about ?the blood?, we?re referring to the blood which poured from Jesus? wounds when He was nailed to the cross of Calvary. The blood of Jesus is real.
When the Bible refers to ?the blood? it speaks of the actual blood of Jesus which exists today in heaven. It is (I say it reverently) the most precious commodity in the universe. Jesus presented His blood before the Father as the means of our eternal redemption.
?with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Hebrews 9:12
But most of us don?t have only this literal meaning in mind when we speak about ?the blood?. We also use ?the blood? as a shorthand expression for the complete sacrificial death of Jesus.
For us, the phrase ?the blood? means both the literal blood of Christ and also a symbol of His death on the cross. Quite simply, the two little words ?the blood? represent everything that God endured and achieved for us through the cross.
Life giving blood
First, all the Old Testament sacrifices and covenants are ?pictures? of the cross, of the place where Jesus shed his blood as the full-and-final sacrifice and as the new covenant This means that everything the Old Testament records about the blood reveals something important about the cross.
Second, blood represents and contains life: it?s the difference between life and death. If you were badly injured in an accident, and your blood drained away, you would die. Similarly, if doctors had to operate on you, they might need to give you a transfusion of another person?s blood to keep you alive.
The life of the flesh is in the blood
Leviticus 17:11
The word life also means soul. This explains why the Bible places such a high value on blood. It teaches that the blood of a human is more valuable than that of an animal, and that the blood of God?s only Son is the most precious life-giving commodity of all.
Finally, God has declared that blood is the price and the means of atonement. This old word refers to the process by which God and humanity becomes ?fully united? or ?completely one?.
The life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.
Leviticus 17:11
Quite simply, God has ordained that sacrifice, that the shedding of blood, is the only way by which sinful men and women can be made one with Him. It is life for life or soul for soul. Jesus is our substitute sacrifice.
Praise God, my friend, for you know what?s happened. You already know the deep truths that:
? in Christ, God Himself provided the blood of the sacrifice so that you could be one with Him for ever.
? on the cross, Christ willingly donated every drop of His blood so that you could always have His life flowing through you.
When we consider the blood, we?ll be considering what God has done for you in salvation ? and praise and thanksgiving are the only right human responses.
