Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens…
?The book of Hebrews helps us understand what God is doing both nationally and internationally. God is shaking the nations and he is shaking our society. At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken ? that is, created things ? so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Hebrews 12:26-27
False ‘gods’
Whenever God sends a shaking, it is always to shake our confidence in all the false things we trust in. God is shaking the false foundations of our society, both in judgement and mercy. In judgement because we have been worshiping the wrong thing – mammon. In mercy, because this shaking shows the inadequacy of our foundations and gives us the opportunity to build again on the right foundations – the kingdom of God.
The unprecedented opportunity given to Islam in our nation also carries prophetic significance. God is warning our nation. He is saying, ‘If you will not have my Son rule over you, then you will experience another kind of rule. This will not be a rule of love, forgiveness and life, but one of domination and servitude.’
It never ceases to amaze me, that the secular liberals who claim that Christianity imposes a narrow and out-dated morality and that it mindlessly accepts religious dogma, are the very ones who are opening the door to Islam through multiculturalism and political correctness.
2011 and beyond
The shaking is set to continue. In the 9th Century BC, Elijah prophesied the ‘recession’ that God was going to bring to Israel. The drought lasted for over 3 years. God is doing a similar thing in our day. The current financial crises may well last that long, and it may take many more years for the full recovery to come. And, when it does come, we can be sure that the social, political and religious landscape will be very different from what it was before the collapse. The influence of Islam will increasingly spread through Islamic finance pouring into the global financial system and through the establishing of Islamic banks in many Western nations.
The stirring
God is shaking the nations, but he is also stirring the Church. Having spoken about the great shaking, the writer to the Hebrews goes on to say, Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29
Jesus taught more about the kingdom of God than any other subject. He proclaimed that in him, the kingdom of God had come, and that through him, the kingdom will be fully manifested at the end of the age. The kingdom of God is the personal rule of God through Jesus Christ. It is a rule, and not a realm; it is a spiritual kingdom, not a political government or system of government. It has righteousness at its very heart and all who seek it first will have the provision and protection of God in every storm. That is why Jesus said, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (see Matthew 6:33).
