Psalm 2:8 gives us God’s vision for the nations. It says,
?Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.? (Psalm 2:8)
In this remarkable Psalm, the ancient King of Israel is invited to ask God for the nations. However, this revealed word sheds light on the very heart of our God whose love for the nations caused him to send his Son to the be Saviour of the world (John 3:16). It crosses the generations and speaks to us today.
There is only one God and only one way to him. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6). The truth belongs to every person on the planet. God’s vision is not just for the one nation of Israel, but for all nations.
This revelation is not only at the heart of the gospel it is also the very essence of our mission, God’s great call for our lives. In Psalm 2 we read the prophetic words God the Father placed on the lips of God the Son: “Ask me, and I will give you the nations”. Jesus has the right to inherit the nations. He shed his blood for the sins of the whole world and he was raised from the dead as Lord over all the earth.
Right now, Jesus is at the Father’s right hand exalted in glory and seated on the governing throne of the universe. He is the praise of the whole earth. From this position he is interceding for the nations. He is asking the Father for the salvation of Britain, France, Nigeria, Romania, and all the nations of the earth.
But Jesus not only prays, he also calls and sends. Acts 1:8 sets the agenda for the whole Church of every generation:
?But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
God has not only called us to be witnesses to Him in our ‘Jerusalem’ but also to reach out to the end of the earth. Today, pray for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit, so that you will have the power to be His witness wherever you are!
Good Evening
