HOPE CLINIC, AMMAN JORDAN

Recently, I spent a day visiting this free medical clinic for refugees and displaced people in Amman, Jordan.

First registered in Jordan in 1927, it was renewed in 1953 following the establishment of Israel in 1948.

Founded by Pr. Albert Hashweh Snr. Who, along with his family, came to Jordan as refugees from Palestine in 1947. The Hashweh family is well-known in Jordan for their Christian and humanitarian service to the many thousands of refugees present in Jordan following the conflicts in Kuwait, Iraq and the more recent unrest in Syria.

The church building was erected in 1988 the year before Pastor Albert passed away.

Christian Missionary & Alliance Church in Amman

Pastor Albertâ€™s son, Yousef Hashweh is the Pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Amman, Jordan and since 1990, has worked extensively with refugees from up to 22 different nations in the Hope Clinic, English Language teaching, and refugee support, counselling and food aid.

Another son of Albert, Jamal Hashweh also works with refugees and hosts 5 hubs in Jordan where refugees mainly from Iraq, Syria and Sudan. The centres provide food parcels, friendship, micro industry or trade training and receive encouragement and support.

Victor Hashweh, son of Albert Hashweh, is well-known in the region for his work among displaced peoples as well as his translation work for the UN. He provides Christian teaching on Marriage and the Family and Christian growth and discipleship.

HOPE CLINIC

There are some 1 million refugees in Jordan from Syria, Iraq and other nations. Without work or income they rely on voluntary groups for any help they can obtain – food, accommodation and medical care. The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Amman is one group providing help for refugees. They care for families, offering support and food. They also run the Hope Medical clinic, open two days a week staffed by volunteer medical staff. They provide free medical care for up to 80 people and families each week. Everything from pregnancy care to PTSD counselling is covered, but above all, the Hope Clinic is a place where people can be heard, valued and included.

TRAUMA COUNSELLING

Refuges from neighbouring nations have lost families, income, homes and hope. Doctors, nurses and counsellors offer counselling and compassion.

â€œWe had a moving meeting with Iraqi refugees whose emotional stories brought tears to our eyes. At the end of the meeting every one of them prayed to receive Jesus in their hearts. We had lunch with them while my brother Jamal handed each refugee a foodstuff parcel.â€

Christians in Syria Fleeing Country as Crisis Reaches 'Unprecedented Levels of Horror'

As the civil war in Syria has reached “unprecedented levels of horror,” according to the U.N., Christians are being forced to flee their homes as avoiding the violent conflict has become less of an option.

“It’s a fight to the death which by definition involves killing. No one will win but those who fought from the start will create a desert and then call it victory,” Sky News?said of the war raging between army forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad and rebels bent on taking down what they say is a tyrannical regime.

The Christians are in the most precarious position. There are Christian enclaves but they are scattered around the country and many have been overrun by opposition or government forces.
Elements in the opposition forces have desecrated and burnt churches in the northern half of Syria. Priests have been murdered,? and Christian civilians forced to flee, just as thousands of others have fled in the face of government forces.
There is now a slow exodus of Christians which may become a flood if the Islamist side of the opposition to Mr Assad becomes the dominant force in Syria.

Christian Pastor Exposes Truth About Syria

Hear the lament to Christians in the West from a Christian pastor in Syria, describing the deteriorating, horrific conditions in the war-torn country:

Scores of Syrian civilians, many of them women with screaming children clinging to their necks, crossed Orontes, a narrow river marking the border with Turkey as they fled the fighting in Azmarin and surrounding villages. Residents from the Turkish village of Hacipasa, nestled among olive groves, helped pull them across in small metal boats.

?Millions are not sleeping in their own beds, forced out of their homes to find themselves with their children homeless?and living in public parks or in the wilderness. Others are not sure if they or their children and loved ones will see the light of a new day. Tens of thousands of families lost loved ones?a child, a father, a mother or a husband.
?Hundreds of the?injured died for lack of?medical care. Thousands of children go to bed terrified of the sound of shelling. Hundreds of thousands are in camps in neighboring countries.
?My people are hurting. I can cry like Nehemiah because the walls of our cities are burnt and the people in great trouble and disgrace. I can weep like Jeremiah because of the intensity and the spread of evil. I can mourn like David because of the indiscriminate brutal killing of innocent people; children, women, elderly, youth subject to shelling or under the rubble of their homes.?

?The violence has pushed people out of their homes, fleeing for their lives. Many are displaced internally and many others are external refugees living in the most humiliating circumstances, deprived of even shelter, clean water, power, food and medical care.?
?We are here for a divine reason; we trust and rely on our sovereign loving Lord. We believe that we are in the midst of a spiritual war. In this country there are many who are much more effective than us militarily, politically, economically and?socially, but none have the privilege of being effective in this spiritual battle like we are.
?We thank God because the Church is united across the country in prayer 24 hours a day, seven days a week; praying for the glory of God to dwell in the Church, praying for an end to the bloodshed, praying for peace in the country, praying for keeping the church’s faithful witness, to reach out to the suffering, to?share the divine cure of the gospel, to speak the word of the Lord in all boldness.?
