God sent a great shaking to the nations in 2008. The effects of the global financial crisis are still with us and will be with us for many years to come. But God is also stirring the church into action, because we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken.
Bank of England governor Sir Mervyn King has warned of the “risk of a storm heading our way from the Continent” as he flagged the eurozone as the greatest threat to the UK’s recovery.
Sir Mervyn’s warning came as the Bank said the UK economy will not return to pre-financial crisis levels before 2014 after it cut its growth forecasts for the next two years. The Bank now expects growth of around 0.8% this year.
And the squeeze on consumer spending is set to maintain its grip as the rate of inflation falls more slowly than previously expected, remaining above the Government’s 2% target for the next year or so.
While the Bank said it did not see a “meaningful way” of factoring in an extreme financial event – such as the collapse of the euro – into its projections, it said the biggest risk to recovery stems from the single currency bloc, the UK’s main trading partner.
source

What does all this mean?

I certainly do not claim too much by way of the prophetic words I gave at the beginning of the year 2008. Some would say that you didn’t need to be a prophet to predict a financial storm. The signs were all too obvious anyway. But a prophetic message is more about ‘forth-telling’ than it is about ‘fore-telling’. The most important question is, ‘What do these things mean?’ In other words, ‘What is God up to in all this?’ Quite simply, God is shaking the nations so that what cannot be shaken will be revealed.

The shaking

The book of Hebrews helps us understand what God is doing both nationally and internationally. God is shaking the nations and he is shaking our society. At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken ? that is, created things ? so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Hebrews 12:26-27

False ‘gods’

Whenever God sends a shaking, it is always to shake our confidence in all the false things we trust in. God is shaking the false foundations of our society, both in judgement and mercy. In judgement because we have been worshiping the wrong thing – mammon. In mercy, because this shaking shows the inadequacy of our foundations and gives us the opportunity to build again on the right foundations – the kingdom of God.

What can we do? We can pray, we can claim some of these promises and we can say “Dear God, protect me in this time of financial difficulty”.

Here is how we can do it…

I counsel you, value your job and your employment; don’t play games with them. Make sure you are in the job God has called you to be in and do it with all your might, faithfulness and grace because that job will see you through. We are going to pray for the unemployed tonight that God will get you into employment this year.

Start dealing with your debt. We will teach on that because during financial difficulty, if you are in debt it is more difficult. It is nothing to worry about or fear but it is important to be diligent in dealing with your debt. We are going to look at some of the ways in which we can do that.

If there is a sense of financial difficulty coming, do not forfeit your tithes and offerings. It is a natural and human temptation when you think that times are tough and there is a squeeze on, so you cut back on your giving – don’t do that. be faithful in your giving because there are promises – they are not mechanical promises like a ‘one-armed bandit’ machine – but if we are faithful in our tithes and offerings, God will open the windows of heaven and he will pour out his blessing.

So, in financial terms, be ready because the storm is coming – you don’t need to be prophetic to see that whole thing beginning to take place.

I have recently been prompted by the Holy Spirit to speak out about the ?perfect storm? that is about break out on the Christian Church in Britain and Europe. Opposition to the Christian faith is definitely intensifying. Different influences seem to be coming together that could soon combine to produce a perfect storm of difficulty for followers of Christ in our region of the world.
Read it in my article : “Facing the storms of life“

Kingdom focus
The Holy Spirit is shaking the nations and stirring the Church in order to reveal the kingdom. It is time to pursue God’s kingdom above all things, not just for our own security, but also as a witness to our nation. Kingdom focus means that we surrender to God’s rule of righteousness in our own lives and uphold his values in our society.
Extend the kingdom
No one can build the kingdom of God. It simply is. It is the eternal and unshakable rule of God. We cannot build it, but we can help extend it. First, by building our lives on the words and revelation of Christ. We must surrender every part of our lives to the gracious rule of God and establish his righteousness in everything we do. The culture of the kingdom runs counter to the ‘me-first’ society and its liberal abandonment of Christian truth and Christian values.
Proclaim the kingdom
Second, extending the kingdom means proclaiming it uncompromisingly to others. This is going to become increasingly difficult in the years ahead as society continues to align itself either with secularism or false religion. We cannot afford to be silent witnesses; we must become active vocal and visible heralds of the good news. We have an unprecedented opportunity to do so, as society’s ‘gods’ are failing to deliver on the promise of peace and security. The secular world-view is failing and there is a window of opportunity to preach the certainties of the Christian message to a generation of people increasingly losing hope. If we do not rise to this challenge, then we leave to door wide open for others to step into the vacuum and to dominate the religious landscape of Britain.
Demonstrate the kingdom
But, proclaiming the kingdom means more than just preaching. We must also demonstrate it. Jesus did this through the ministry of signs and wonders and through his compassion and acts of kindness which testified to the reality of his message.?
We must also continue to demonstrate the kingdom to the world through our acts of compassion and service to others in society. Let every believer become active in good works and be living witnesses to the presence of the kingdom, just as Jesus said, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Kingdom influence
The strategy of false religion is to become an earthly ruling power and dominant political force in society. Jesus said his kingdom did work like that. But that does not mean our faith has nothing to do with day-to-day life in the world. Far from it! Our faith is relevant for the whole of life. Jesus wants his rule to have a ‘salt and light’ influence throughout every part of society. This means we must actively engage in every aspect of our society – by our presence, through our life-style, by praying, by standing up for righteousness and by protesting against evil and injustice as well as by presenting positive Christian values to those around us. We must get out of the closet of closed church life and actively reach people where they are. This means that every Christian must become both a disciple and a disciple maker. This is what the cell ministry is all about. We need thousands of cells of active Christians meeting in homes, in offices, in schools and colleges, witnessing to the presence of the unshakeable kingdom of God.
It is time to show the nation another way of being and living – Christ’s way.

Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens…
?The book of Hebrews helps us understand what God is doing both nationally and internationally.
The unprecedented opportunity given to Islam in our nation also carries prophetic significance. God is warning our nation. He is saying, ‘If you will not have my Son rule over you, then you will experience another kind of rule. This will not be a rule of love, forgiveness and life, but one of domination and servitude.’
It never ceases to amaze me, that the secular liberals who claim that Christianity imposes a narrow and out-dated morality and that it mindlessly accepts religious dogma, are the very ones who are opening the door to Islam through multiculturalism and political correctness.
2011 and beyond
The shaking is set to continue. In the 9th Century BC, Elijah prophesied the ‘recession’ that God was going to bring to Israel. The drought lasted for over 3 years. God is doing a similar thing in our day. The current financial crises may well last that long, and it may take many more years for the full recovery to come. And, when it does come, we can be sure that the social, political and religious landscape will be very different from what it was before the collapse. The influence of Islam will increasingly spread through Islamic finance pouring into the global financial system and through the establishing of Islamic banks in many Western nations.
The stirring
God is shaking the nations, but he is also stirring the Church. Having spoken about the great shaking, the writer to the Hebrews goes on to say, Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29
Jesus taught more about the kingdom of God than any other subject. He proclaimed that in him, the kingdom of God had come, and that through him, the kingdom will be fully manifested at the end of the age. The kingdom of God is the personal rule of God through Jesus Christ. It is a rule, and not a realm; it is a spiritual kingdom, not a political government or system of government. It has righteousness at its very heart and all who seek it first will have the provision and protection of God in every storm. That is why Jesus said, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (see Matthew 6:33).
