Without God we are nothing. We owe everything to Him. It is His love and His mercy that has brought us into relationship with Himself and continues to keep us close to Him. God has chosen us to be a special people for Himself and He treasures us above all else.

That is why He is continually supplying His grace and mercy and daily pouring it into our lives. He knows that we need Him every moment of every day. He has bound Himself in covenant agreement with us to provide for us all that we need from now and until the great climax of all things when we will have become all that He set His love on us to become.

Key Thought

Never doubt the mercy of God and your need for it. You are saved by God?s faithfulness and not your effort. His grace and mercy is daily upon your life and it will keep you and see you through to your destination.

Prayer

Lord, I thank you for Your grace and favour upon my life today. Help me trust in these and not my own weak efforts to follow You. I thank You also that You loved me and chose me not on my merits, but that, by Your grace and faithfulness, I am Your special treasure.

Discipleship Steps

Being a follower of Jesus means that you have learnt to depend upon the strength of God?s call and grace at work in your life. Think through how you can remember that in the busy day ahead. How can you draw on God?s goodness today? Remember, that in His faithfulness, He is supporting your every effort. Don?t compare yourself with your own or other people?s expectations of you. Let God?s faithfulness give you strength for today.

Read Psalm 5. This Psalm contrasts the lifestyle of the wicked with the righteous. The righteous enjoy the blessing of God while the wicked will not.
God?s favour is seen in answered prayer, joyful worship, strength of life and deliverance from your enemies. The righteous can enjoy God?s favour in all things and know the blessings of obedience. This doesn?t mean, however, that the righteous will never suffer or be tested. Whatever tests you are experiencing now, remember God?s blessing is on the righteous and His favour surrounds you like a shield.
Key Thought
God has freely given you His favour in Christ, but to enjoy this favour in your life, you must flow with God?s will and purpose. God?s favour is upon all who look to Him and follow His way. Learn to honour His name and you will be able to rejoice in all circumstances.
Prayer
Lord, I thank you for your favour over my life. Help me to live always under this favour and not to forfeit it by making the wrong choices and decisions. Lead me and guide me in your ways.
Discipleship Steps
Discipleship is all about following God?s ways in Christ. It is doing what Jesus would do. You are called to follow a person and not a legalistic formula. Nevertheless there are blessings to receive along the way as you walk in obedience. Decide to live under God?s favour and invoke these blessings through your obedience. Have courage as you face any negative circumstances today because God is with you.

Some will teach grace to a limited extent. They agree that we are saved by grace, but they quickly re-introduce the law to ?balance? grace with discipline. But you cannot successfully mix grace with anything ? it must be all grace or it is simply not grace at all. Unlimited grace means that the good we receive from God is totally unmerited and free. If we contribute to our salvation, even in the slightest detail, then grace is no longer grace.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2881" class="size-full wp-image-2881" alt="We are forgiven by grace, accepted by grace, saved by grace, sanctified by grace and we serve by grace. It is grace from start to finish

Grace is not a good offer, a bargain deal or a cheap way of gaining something priceless in itself. For grace to be grace it means we pay nothing. Christ takes full responsibility for 100% of the payment. That is exactly what he achieved for us on the cross. His cry of triumph rings down through the ages, ?It is finished!? No more debt to pay, nothing more to do to qualify for God?s favour. We are now and forever a part of God?s kingdom by faith in Christ.
We are forgiven by grace, accepted by grace, saved by grace, sanctified by grace and we serve by grace. It is grace from start to finish. Think what this means in practice. We love God because he first loved us. We live right because we have been accepted by him and not in order to be accepted by him. We forgive because we have been forgiven, we live free because we have been set free and we serve God because he has served us.
All we do for Christ is based on our response to his grace and not in order to gain his favour. Paul knew this and made one of the most profound grace statements in the entire New Testament when he wrote,
For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
1 Corinthians 15:9-11

People with a Passion, a landmark publication

Paul was the first to admit that in himself he was unworthy before God. No-one disagreed! They were suspicious of his conversion to Christ and outraged that he was now claiming apostleship on the same level as the 12 apostles of Christ. Perhaps you feel completely unworthy and inadequate when it comes to the challenge of the cell vision. Maybe you have to face both internal and external doubts about your suitability to serve Jesus. Look how Paul dealt with it.
He was as amazed as everybody else, absolutely blown away by the kindness of God in taking a self-righteous, bigoted and arrogant persecutor of Christ, and making him the primary New Testament apostle to the Gentiles. All he could say was ?I am what I am by the grace of God.? He owed it all to Christ. We must learn the same lesson. Only when we are equally overwhelmed by the mercy and grace God has shown to us will we be ready to serve him willingly and joyfully. Only then will we be willing to take on something as radical and demanding as the cell vision.
From the book “People with a passion“, by Colin Dye.
